Route printing is finally here!

We’re happy to release a new route printing feature this morning! By leaps and bounds this has been the number one requested feature for quite some time. Other running sites charge for the privilege of printing out maps of the routes you’ve created, but that’s not how we do things around here.

How to print a route

  • Create and save a route
  • View the route by clicking on it from “My Routes”
  • Click “Print this Route” found at the top-left corner of the map
  • Customize your print page and hit “Print It!”. You can change zoom levels, change map types, pan the map, type a note, or add additional map views of the route!

P.S. Please print only when necessary, and remember to tread lightly on the environment.

We're headed to Facebook for the summer!

Great news!

fbfundrevlogo

Two weeks ago, we received some wonderful news that we must share the RunThere community. In April, we applied to Facebook’s investment/mentorship program on a whim. After a few weeks, we learned that we were picked as one of 50 finalists! Facebook’s announcement, TechCrunch article, CNet article. That’s officially our first mention on TechCrunch 🙂

Ten days later, we learned that RunThere would be one of 18 startups to receive funding this summer as part of the fbFund REV program! We’ll be working out of the old Facebook offices in downtown Palo Alto, CA. We’ll get lots of mentorship and support as we take this site from beta to business! Facebook’s announcement, TechCrunch article.

What this means for our users

RunThere will be our primary focus for the foreseeable future and we have many features in mind that will get developed and released faster. Also, we will be working on other aspects of the RunThere service to grow our user base. More details to be shared soon. As always, contact us with any questions.

Our intro video…

RunThere.com goes to Facebook

As part of the program, Facebook asked us to make a short introduction video to share with the other companies participating in the program. We decided to have some fun and wondered what it would be like to have RunThere’s mile markers show up in the real world. Enjoy!

Our friend Adrian was the first blogger ever to mention RunThere. Check out his awesome SF Bay Area music blog. Thanks!

Added Facebook Connect and fixed some bugs

Facebook Connect is here!

We’ve added support for Facebook Connect, so now you can create a RunThere account without having to sign up at all! This makes it easier to: share your routes, share your logged runs/bike rides, invite friends from Facebook, and find other RunThere users who are already your friends.

As we develop our next new features, we’ll further integrate Facebook Connect. Please consider this a soft-launch of the Connect feature and help us iron out any issues you might experience. Send us your feedback and bug reports!

Here’s an example of what your friends can see in your Facebook news feed.
It’s up to you what you share!

We fixed some bugs, too.

  • Fixed IE6 and IE7 bug, where the exercise log calendar couldn’t be selected
  • Fixed auto-login popup during route saving
  • Fixed profile fields that weren’t updating correctly (like personal bests)

Friends, messaging, and invites are here!

We’re finally releasing the first “social” part of our “social networking for runners”. This first step will let users send messages to each other, share routes easily, and invite new users to the site. This release prepares us for some features that are in the works. Think virtual running challenges!

Here’s a message inbox and a message thread with an attached route:

Exercise Log replaces running log

You can now log bike rides as well as runs. Having bike rides in a “running log” didn’t make sense, so we renamed this feature.

Redesigned route icons!

New dog-friendly tag for routes

dogfriendly Love to walk or jog with your four-legged friend? Now you can mark your routes as dog-friendly. Just look for the dog-friendly icon when you save your route.
